Ceramics & pottery

Ceramics are made from clay and then dried and fired to make them hard. There are two main areas of the ceramics industry:

list Heavy clay products: bricks, roofing and hollow tiles, earthenware pipes and other building materials.
list Pottery products including sanitary and electrical ware but also decorative tiles and table ware.

Great care is needed when firing most pottery products because:

list soot or ash must not mar the ware
list sulphur oxides can ruin certain colours and glazes
list some types of ware need a reducing atmosphere during gloss-firing.

LPG is the ideal fuel for use in firing pottery and ceramics which can be adversely affected by soot and sulphur oxides in other fuels. Added to this is its efficiency and heat controllability.
